Hippodromes are the focal point of the DeRace metaverse: it is where you can experience the excitement of a race, thrill of competition and joy of winning!
Knowing the inner mechanics of NFT horse performance in different hippodromes is helpful not only to the stable owners and guilds, but also players who consider becoming hippodrome managers and want to succeed.
Get ready to take notes and LET’S GO!
Spoiler alert: We will share some insider tips on racing from DeRace devs *wink wink*
Hippodromes overview
DeRace hippodromes differ in their visual appearance as well as their inherent parameters. Track length varies from 8 to 16 furlongs, currently generating races between 2 and 15 furlongs. They also have 3 different surfaces which affect the NFT horse’s performance — more specifically — its stamina.
Greenfield
Track length: 8 furlongs
Track surface: Dirt
Races: 2–7 furlongs
Stamina consumption: High
Greenfield is our very first hippodrome that was introduced on December 28th with the release of DeRace Beta 1.1! Since the launch, the hippodrome has had several visual upgrades such as additional billboards.
In the real-life horse racing world dirt is the most common racetrack surface in the US due to the fact that bettors consider dirt racing to be more predictable.
We have chosen to release the dirt track first due to more complex dust animations that are visible when the horse is running.
Stamina
The stamina consumption on this track is the highest compared to other surfaces, making this hippodrome best suited for horses with high endurance. Of course running short distances and making it to the top 3 in this hippodrome is possible for horses with average stamina levels too. The horses with low endurance tend to perform poorly in Greenfield.
Paradise Hills
Track length: 12 furlongs
Track surface: Synthetic
Races: 2–11 furlongs
Stamina consumption: Medium
Immerse yourself into the tropical paradise while racing in Paradise Hills hippodrome!
Our hippodrome with a synthetic surface was introduced in February and has quickly became the favorite of the DeRace community because of its vibrant atmosphere and summery vibes.
In the horse racing world, synthetic track is believed to reduce injuries to both horses and riders, and can withstand drastic weather changes.
Stamina
The stamina consumption in Paradise Hills hippodrome is medium, making this hippodrome well-suited for horses with average to high stamina. All horses can reach their peak potential in shorter distances on the synthetic surface.
It is also the best hippodrome to test the stamina parameter, since its consumption decreases continuously throughout the race.
Emerald Gardens
Track length: 16 furlongs
Track surface: Turf
Races: 5–15 furlongs
Stamina consumption: Low
Emerald Gardens was inspired by metropolitan cities such as London or New York that have preserved their historical parks. The parks today play a role of calm and green oasis in the dynamic and fast-moving concrete jungle life.
Emerald Gardens is our latest hippodrome that stands out with the longest racetrack of 16 furlong. However, since it has the longer races it’s the smoothest hippodrome from the stamina perspective 😉
Stamina
Our latest hippodrome with a turf surface is well suited for horses of all stats, since the consumption of stamina on this surface is the lowest.
Long distance races in Emerald Gardens are perfect for horses with medium to high stamina levels. The main variable that determines the horse’s performance in this hippodrome is speed!
Ultimate Racing Tips From DeRace Devs
The speed of NFT horses is calculated differently on each surface which means that every horse has a preferred track: you just need to find it!
Some horses are faster on dirt, some on turf and others — on synthetic. Every horse has at least one track where they perform well. Make sure to test your horse on different racetracks at various lengths. Because the game mechanics include a randomness factor, racing your horse once or twice will not reveal his real performance.
While the stamina parameter doesn’t depend on the surface, its consumption does. To figure out your horse’s endurance level, race him in the Paradise Hills hippodrome. Since it has medium stamina usage, it is easier to see when it is fully consumed. Choose races of various lengths to get the best picture!
Or if you’re not so much into the math… just check your NFT horse performance on deracing.org/stats/horse-analysis/ 👀
P.S. You still need to race your horse constantly to get the most accurate results!
Fast forward to the future: community owned hippodromes
We can’t wait for the launch of community-owned hippodromes (and among them DeRace Jockey Club hippodrome) in the upcoming months.
The new hippodromes will also have different length tracks and one of the 3 surfaces. Besides that, they will differ in appearance: the design of the track, nature, architecture…and some races will happen during the night 🤩
Hippodrome owners will be able to generate various races by selecting the race parameters via the Hippodrome Management System.
It is crucial to generate the races strategically to ensure the highest possible attendance. It means finding the perfect balance between the race rewards, entry requirements and race parameters.
Knowing the inner mechanics of the horse’s performance and how it is impacted by different track lengths and surfaces will help the hippodrome owners to generate the races which can attract the highest number of participants!
